Understanding The Importance of Health Equipment

Science has been around for a long time, and the changes we see in medical practice have come a long way too. With the constant rise and upgrades in technology in this modern era, it has become easier for us to navigate through life and to have easy access to certain work that was once deemed impossible to do. In the medical field, there have been a lot of changes from the use of anaesthetics to medical devices like EKG/ECG machines to check a patient’s heart activity and defibrillators to restore normal heart rhythm in life-threatening situations. Hence, let’s get to know the importance of health equipment in Malaysia and the impact this health equipment has made on society.

Health equipment – What does it do?

More than you can imagine. Medical, or health equipment, have been around longer than any of us has ever lived. It has existed back to 5000 years ago, but it has been upgraded and changed throughout the years to produce better and high-quality equipment, including health equipment that never existed before. The common health equipment that has existed for a while is equipment that is used in surgery, such as forceps, knives, scalpels, saws, lancets, needles, trocars, cauteries and knives. However, it wasn’t until the 1800s that the development of modern medicine boomed and contributed a lot to those who are pursuing the medical field. 

Antiseptic was introduced in 1867 to promote cleaner operating theatres, which resulted in higher successful operating outcomes and improving higher survival rates for patients. Following the groundbreaking development in modern medicine in the 1800s, technology rises exponentially until today, where we now have innovative devices and machines that contribute to intricate work in surgery, to health equipment as simple as thermometers and HRM (Heart Rate Monitors).

Why is health equipment important?

Generally, health is important to everyone as good health can promote living longer and contributes to being able to do daily tasks without any complications. However, the reality is people get sick from time to time, and cases like chronic illnesses or accidents or even death, need to be taken off in a proper manner. To have to deal with this, hospitals and medical staff are required to equip themselves with high-quality health equipment to be able to figure out the patients’ health problems. 

Without high-quality health equipment, we probably will not be able to survive for a long period of time. Health equipment is also convenient as health equipment is able to track things that our naked eye can’t track and to reach and deal with intricate areas that most surgeons can’t reach. 

Also, with the existence of modern technology, health equipment isn’t just equipment used in the hospital, but it now exists on our smartphones through the health app. For example, Apple has included a Health app on iPhones to track consumers’ health, and Apple also created Apple Watch that could track consumers’ heart rate, as well as blood and oxygen levels on the go. 

Hence, the usage and demands for health equipment are more than we anticipated. The importance of health equipment definitely made an impact on our society, promoting convenience and sufficiency in both the medical field and other fields as well.
