How to show your support for breastfeeding mom

I’m sure there you would have at least one new mom or breastfeeding mom be it in your own family, your extended family or even in your workplace. Breastfeeding moms are indeed superwoman as not only they have to juggle between their work but they also need to find time to regularly pump milk. That is definitely a tiring chore as it drains most energy out of you. That is also the time where mothers face postpartum depression. This could be very deteriorating for their physical and mental health. Due to this they would often feel like they are missing out so much in life. It is important for them to feel that they are loved and cared for. So here’s how you can show your support to breastfeeding moms that you know. 

Pay them a visit 

A breastfeeding mother may frequently feel excluded or lonely, that would also be the time where they feel as if they are confined in their house all the time as they need to feed their baby. It is also quite common for moms to feel as if they have missed out on their normal routine and also their friendships after becoming a mother. As a friend or well wisher, you could pay them a visit, you could spend a few hours with them and even volunteer to look after the baby while they catch up with their routine like taking a nap or taking a shower. They would definitely feel better 

Get them gifts 

Nothing would make people happy like how gifts would. While you are getting them gifts, you might as well want to get them something that is useful for them like breastfeeding pads, nursing pillow malaysia, baby’s essentials and cute clothes for them. Raising a child can be pricey especially after all the price hike post pandemic, by getting them things that they really need like diapers and stuff, you are unknowingly able to reduce their burden and make their parenting journey a good one.

Be sensitive of their needs 

New mothers can be really needy at times, just like how they had cravings during the earlier stages of pregnancy they might also have developed a liking towards a certain food or a taste. During times like this, it is best if you are able to fulfill their needs and demands. Don’t brush off their needs by saying things that might hurt them, instead show up and try to provide them with all the things that you are able to give to them. This would give them a sense of comfort and a common understandment would occur. 

Communication

Considering how busy a breastfeeding mother is, there will be times where they are not able to answer your phone calls or reply to your messages on time. If you really want to reach out to them, you might intact their spouse or close family members. Try to be as understanding as possible and understand that they would not be able to promptly answer to your regards immediately. Respect her privacy and make sure that she has the mental capacity to take in whatever that you are going to put before you do so. You definitely wouldn’t want to be a contributing factor to the stress that they probably already have.
